Rest Day: Calico Hills Sport Climbing

I mentioned earlier that we took a rest day to relax our aching legs from hiking. We went to a crag called the Gallery in the Calico Hills, a stunning white, red and pink outcrop at the north end of Red Rock Canyon. Really pretty rock.

We still ended up getting lost on the approach even though you can see the routes from your car! It seems like getting lost on the approach is a pattern for us.

We ended up only doing 4 routes, with the hardest being A Day in the Life, 5.11c. All of the climbs on this crag have the same basic handholds, the harder routes are just longer and steeper than the easier routes on the wall. I fell once on the first go of A Day in the Life, and then redpointed it on my second attempt. I was pretty motivated since I needed to get on something this hard that was new to me.

I took a few photos of Jer and Ben on A Day in the Life that turned out well, so here they are.
